Firefox 27

  • PROS
Clean, minimal interface. Fast performance. Highly customizable. Good HTML5 support. Good security. Cross-platform. Social network integration via API. Syncing. Built-in PDF viewer. Independence from large vendor. Host of developer tools.
    • CONS
Slower than competitors on some benchmarks, with less HTML5 support. No built-in Flash support.
    • BOTTOM LINE
Firefox is a Web browser with a clean design, fast performance, loads of new standards support, and constant improvements.
  • Firefox remains a favorite among the browsing cognoscenti for its leading customization possibilities, attractive design, and open-source provenance. Recently it's also gotten a lot faster and become the thrifty-memory-use champion—dispelling earlier complaints of excessive memory use. The independent software developer Mozilla continues to innovate, though the organization's focus has shifted to mobile developments of late, with its Firefox OS phone operating system. One unfortunate backtrack is Facebook's withdrawal of support for Firefox's Social API, which made for an exceptionally easy way to integrate social networking into the browser. For sites sticking with the Social API, Firefox 27 adds the ability to run multiple such add-ons. The new version also improves security and speed by enabling newer TLS (Transport Layer Security) standards by default and by implementing the faster SPDY 3.1 replacement for the Web's basic communication protocol, HTTP.
